Bluebird Feeders
We are still amazed and delighted that Bluebirds are regularly visiting our feeders. When we opened our shop in 1986, the only way to attract Eastern Bluebirds was by providing them with a nesting box. Well, that still works, but several years ago we were thrilled to see them chipping away at peanut splits and hulled sunflower on our feeders at home. A couple of weeks ago we counted 8 on the feeder and above, probably from the 2 broods that fledged from our front yard nesting box this summer.
This winter, we even have them coming to our kitchen window feeder. We hung a Droll Yankee X-1 on a sturdy plastic suction cup arm right on the kitchen window, and now the Bluebirds take turns at the #2 Sunflower, along with Chickadees, Titmice, Carolina Wrens and Downy Woodpeckers!

This 4"round mealworm feeder attaches to any pole that's 3/4" to 1-1/4" round. An extra screw is included to fit a 1/2" round or 1/2" square pole. Made of powder coated steel in an attractive blue color, it also has perforations in the bottom so that rain will drain out. We LOVE ours--we placed it right below our wooden Bluebird nesting box. We place a dozen or so mealworms in it at a time, the Bluebirds hop out of the box, down to the feeder, then back into the box to feed their young. so much fun to watch! |
